Active Ability programme

The Active Ability Programme provides a range of opportunities for children, young people and adults with a physical, learning or sensory disability. The programme was initially developed to enhance the opportunities available across Rotherham for disabled people to access sports provision.

The programme has been supported through the Rotherham Disability Sport & Physical Activity Forum. The Rotherham Disability Sports Forum was established in 2005 to bring together key voluntary organisations and Statutory Bodies who have an interest in developing sport & physical activity for people with a disability in Rotherham.

Active Rotherham has a disability officer through funding from Sport England’s Inclusive Sport Funding pot. The aim of this project is to develop pathways for people to participate in sport to a higher level whilst also creating more opportunities to play sport at grass roots. The priority sports in this project are Athletics, Swimming, Cricket, Basketball and Boccia.
